Is Hawthorne a tree or a bush?

Ive been making wands for fun and for my friends who are harry potter fans. Anyway i need a Hawthorne branch to make my next one, but i live in Georgia and i dont know what a Hawthorne is. So is it a tree or a bush/shrub type plant?
